'Anteak' timber salvaged from 1920's schooner

The 1926 wooden schooner Herga was built by Harry Feltham of Portsmouth, a well-known and respected boat builder. She was built of teak planking on an English Elm keel with English Elm frames. Some years ago, I purchased this yacht with the view to restoring her after she lay idle under a tree in a farmer's field near Oxford. The yacht was in a sorry state but never the less I transported her to my yard in Chertsey and set about dismantling her to get to the root of the rot. Sadly, the rot had all but destroyed the frames and so I was left with a lot of twisted teak planking.

As I started off life as a Carpenter, I now spend my time, when not sailing, making small teak items with the salvaged timbers. A selection of which can be seen below. I have deliberately not tried to hide or mask the nail holes etc. that are present, but rather show off these scars as evidence of the 100 years or so they have been in service. The hull was originally covered in copper sheeting beneath the waterline and many of the pieces have several holes where copper nails attached the sheeting to the teak planking. Some of the copper nails are still embedded within the teak.
